What to Expect at Skills Assessment

What: AAA & Majors Skills Assessment

Where:  TBD

Arrival Times:
All players should arrive at TBD

Skills Assessments should take 90 minutes from the time you arrive.  Please register before you arrive.

In early March, Spokane South Little League hosts a required skills assessment for all players interested in playing in the AAA or Majors divisions of Little League.  The Skills Assessment is a fundamental program that allows SSLL to build competitive teams across our divisions.  Typically this has been hosted in doors given the spring weather in Spokane. Here's what to expect:

At the location selected, players will be given a time slot according to their last name and the division they would like to try out for. For example AAA players with the last name beginning from A through G compete in the first 30 minutes, AAA players H through O in the second 30 minutes, and P through Z in the final 30 minutes of the first sessions.  Then those players trying out for Majors follow the same path for the second 90 minute session.

Players will be called up in groups of 10 and participate in the following sessions, each lasting 15 minutes:

     - Warm Ups
     - Infield Grounders
     - Outfield Pop Flys
     - Hitting
     - Pitching (only for established pitchers)

Players are scored by alumni coaches and board members of SSLL.  These rankings are then made available to the Player Agent (who guides the formation of AAA teams) and to the Majors managers (who draft Majors teams).  Outside of this audience, player scores are kept in strict confidence.

Once your session begins, start to finish time should be less then one hour.

When you arrive, please sign in at the registration desk.

Players must bring their glove.   Optionally, they are free to bring their own helmets and bats for use in the Hitting segment of the assessment.

Please be sure to register in advance of attending the Skills Assessment.  This will ensure that we adequately plan for the number of participants likely to be there.
