Practices

The coach, who is a volunteer, is expected to be at practice promptly. The same is expected of all players. Practices are as important as games. This is the time when existing techniques are enhanced and new ones introduced and developed. It is also the time that is used by the coach to teach and practice team tactics.

Players are expected to attend practice with a positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn from the coach. It is important that players attend as many practices as possible since frequent absence limits the individual player's development and may inhibit team performance. If a player consistently misses practice, this issue is to be discussed by the coach, the player and parent(s) and could result in reduced match playing time.  When attending practice, players are required to be dressed appropriately; i.e. soccer shoes, shin pads, etc. In addition, each player should bring water or alternative liquid refreshment and a clearly labeled ball which is the correct size for the player's age

Practice Frequency & Duration

Coaches, not FUSC, pick the practice location, times, and dates   Below are FUSC recommendations for practice frequency and duration based on age group:
  U8:   One 1 hr practice a week
 U9/10:  Two 1 - 1 1/4 hr practices a week
 U11/12:  Two 1 to 1 1/2 hr practices a week
 U14:  Two 1 1/2 to 2 hr (max) practices a week

Practice Fields and Sharing

Coaches may hold practices on grass surfaces at most Framingham fields and town parks.  If another team(s) arrives at the field where you are holding practice, the coaches are required to share the practice space.  No team or coach has priority for a specific town field or park.  The lone exception is Merchant Road Fields where coaches must reserve a field with the Fields Director.  Practices at the 12 banned fields (see list on right) can result in the loss of our field permits for games.  Please do NOT use the Banned Practice Areas.

Practice Fields

FUSC holds permits with the town of Framingham for game days only. Permits are not given for practices. Practices are permitted on grass surfaces ONLY, and may be held at most town fields including many parks, elementary schools and the Merchant Rd field complex.  Practice fields for Merchant Rd must be reserved with the Fields Director.
