Step-by-Step Guide for Taking the

Concussion in Sports - What You Need to Know Course

Note: It takes approximately 30 minutes to register for and complete this course.  Once you have completed the Concussion course, please notify Anna Yarnal by e-mail ([email protected]).

Step 1:  Click the link http://www.nfhslearn.com/electiveDetail.aspx?courseID=38000 

You are now on the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations ) Learning Center. Within the Elective Course section, you will find Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know.  Select “Please Login to Order”.  A “Sign In Here” window will appear; click “Register Now” at the bottom of that window.

Step 2: Register as a New User

Fill out the required information in all of the boxes marked with an *. You don’t have to indicate a school district, and may ignore all non-required fields; choose “Coach” as your primary position.  Select all of the individual sports with which you may potentially coach (this single course will cover all of them).  You will need to highlight each sport and then use the > button to add to the selected sports box.

Once you have completed all required information, click “Submit Registration”.  You have now created an account successfully. Click the link to return to the home page of the NFHSLearn.com site.

Step 3: Log-in to the Course

You will see a Welcome Back box on the middle of the right side of the page (in gray). Click on “View All Available Courses”.  In the Free Courses column, select Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know.

Now you’re back to the Elective Course section.  Select “Order Now”.  Choose the “I am ordering a course for myself” option, then “Continue”. You will now have a shopping cart check out box. (Note: there is no fee to take this course). Confirm the state of Ohio, then click “Save” and then “Checkout”.  A second check out box will appear. Click “Complete Purchase”.

The next page is a receipt of your order. Click on the hyperlink “please click here” (found in the second line) to open the Active Course window.

Step 4: Take the Course

From within the My Active Courses tab, select the “Begin” button, located just before the Concussion in Sports course.  Make sure your PC’s volume is turned up at this time.  The course should take 20-25 minutes.

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked to complete a short survey. After the survey, you will receive a “Congratulations” screen indicating you are done.  As it states there, you can save and print your certificate from within your My Homepage link. Close this box with the X on the top right corner.

Step 5: Submit your Completion Certificate

Your Learning center should still be open. Open the My Completed Courses tab at the top. Click on the View/Print button on the right.  The completion certificate, showing your name and date of completion, will open in a new window. From the toolbar in that window, select the printer icon to print a copy.  Then select the diskette icon to save a copy of the PDF file to your hard drive or desktop (remember the location to which you save the file).  Please print and saveNOTE: Once saved, e-mail the certificate to Anna Yarnal ([email protected]om) as an attachment. 

Please note that you do not need to install any additional software to download, save or print.

***If you have to leave the course you will need to log-in and go to the My Homepage/Courses at the top of the page. You will not need to order the program again. Just click the link in My Active Courses.
