COACHING PHILOSOPHY:
It is important for coaches to acknowledge the role athletics play in the development of children as a whole individual. Each child is an individual with unique needs. Players want to enjoy practices and games. If they are not having fun or learning they will lose interest quickly. For a brand new player, the coach represents their first experience with organized sports. Organize activities and game situations so all children have the opportunity to develop and maintain positive feelings of self worth. Provide positive encouragement both for accomplishments and mistakes. Learning is meant to provide a taste of the game and experience the "team effort" as a introduction to the positive sports experience. The most appealing thing about soccer is that there are no skills required to start at the simplest level, if they can run and kick, they can play. If we are supportive of the development of all the children, the players will develop a love for the game and have a good experience. Most likely, they will want to continue playing. The objective of any game is to win, but more important the overall goal is for the players to enjoy playing the game and do their personal best. Recreational soccer is not about winning at all costs. We encourage coaches with strong teams to rotate their players, it is not our goal in any way for children to leave the field upset, embarrassed or humiliated. We expect our coaches to use positive reinforcement of strength and provide encouragement to help overcome weaknesses in every child so they may all have a good soccer experience. We expect that all team players shall play 50% of each game they attend whether they are the strongest player or the weakest.
