New Bat Rules - 2018

Dear CYB Families,

For the upcoming 2018 season and beyond, Carlsbad Youth Baseball (like all Pony and Little League organizations around the globe) will now adhere to the new 2018 USABat standard.

Effective January 1, 2018, all 2017 and earlier  aluminum/composite (2 1/4 and 2 5/8) bats will no longer be permitted for CYB/Pony Baseball play including any bats marked with the BFP 1.15.  This does not apply to tee ball bats purchased 2017 and earlier which will still be permitted for play in the Shetland division only.

All bats will require a USA Baseball certification stamp (see image below).

Unlike years past, CYB will now be allowing 2 5/8 barrel bats at the Pinto level in addition to the previously approved 2 1/4 barrel bats.  Barrel sizes for other divisions remain unchanged from prior years.

CYB league umpires will do bat inspections at games and remove any bat from use during a game that does not have the 2018 USA certification stamp.

USA Baseball's national member organizations (Pony Baseball, Little League, Cal Ripken league, etc.) believe that a wood-like performance standard will best provide for the long-term integrity of the game and are requiring this rule change for all local leagues.  These bats are made to mimic wood bats, lessening the "pop" factor and thus provide a more uniform performance.

We understand that this is a major change.   Like in seasons past, we expect that many players will share bats.

Thank you for your understanding and support of this change.  If you have any questions please contact your division commissioner.
