2024 Spring Quickball (ages 4-6)

Quickball is a version of baseball developed to teach all diamond skills in a more active, engaging way. Anyone can play and teamwork is emphasized on all levels. Each week players work on skills and play a practice game. Anyone can succeed regardless of skill level. It teaches and strengthens baseball skills by offering multiple hitting, fielding and throwing chances for all players during each game. Innovative concepts such as timed team at bats, rapid batter rotation and two-way scoring keep games moving and get everyone involved - critical elements in grabbing the attention of today's kids.

In 2024, we are offering Beginning and Advanced divisions. Advanced is appropriate for older kids, those with experience, and those who have developed more coordination.

Beginner teams will probably meet at 9 and 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Advanced teams will meet after that--final times will depend on registrations.

Please consider volunteering to coach. No prior experience is necessary, and we need a LOT of coaches and assistants for everyone to have the best experience.

2024 Spring Baseball

Spring Programs run from April to June for Ages 4 to 18 years old in Baseball and Softball.

Ages 4-6 Quickball is a version of baseball developed to teach all diamond skills in a more active, engaging way. Anyone can play and teamwork is emphasized on all levels. Each player gets to try for a single, double, triple and home run in every game! There's also scoring on both offense and defense and anyone can succeed regardless of skill level. Games are at Pickering Field in Ambler.

AA Baseball Ages 6 through 8 builds on the concepts taught in Quickball. There is no score keeping. The games are six innings in length and last an hour and a half. Coaches pitch for a majority of the season. Three outs and strike-outs (swinging) to help the players learn "real" baseball. The spring season runs from April-June. AA is offered in spring (April-June).

AAA and Majors Baseball Ages 9-12 is competitive baseball play with full time player pitching, sliding, stealing and bunting. The strike zone is expanded to encourage hitting rather than walking. Games are a maximum of 6 innings or two hours. Games can be any day of the week. The spring season runs April-June.  It is possible that not all games will be at Pickering field. In order to provide a competitive environment, we may play teams from other neighboring leagues that share our approximate skill levels. We do not play against "travel" teams.

Baseball teams and divisions will be formed based on registrations and coach assessments of player skills. We strive for even competition for our older division, so we cannot guarantee placement with friends.

Quickball players do not use gloves. Baseball players must have gloves, and may either bring their own helmet and bat or use league equipment. ONLY bats stamped "USA Baseball" are permitted, NOT "USSSA". We cannot allow use of nonconforming bats. Please note that many stores sell those bats, which are typically only allowed in travel leagues. They are expensive and non-returnable, so feel free to discuss with a coach before you buy.

8U Mini Softball Ages 7 and 8 is an instructional introduction to Softball. The program builds on the fundamentals taught in T-ball and introduces the fundamentals of Softball. There is no score keeping and games last no more than an hour and a half. There are about 12 games, with no playoffs, per spring season which runs from April to June. Home field is Pickering Field. Opponents may include East Norriton, Lower Gwynedd, Plymouth and Whitpain. In fall (September-October) most games are at Schweiker Park in Hatfield.

10U Minor Softball Ages 9 and 10 is competitive softball with an emphasis on fundamentals and player development. Introduces ASA rules including sliding and full time player pitching. Games are 6 innings or a maximum of two hours. There are about 12 games, not including playoffs, per spring season which runs from April to June. Home field is Pickering with some games at the Wissahickon Middle School. Opponents may include East Norriton, Lower Gwynedd, Plymouth and Whitpain. In fall (September-October) most games are at Schweiker Park in Hatfield.
