Covid Safety Plan

2021 LCCU United Covid Safety Requirements

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this document is to detail the protocols that must be followed in order to provide a safe and enjoyable baseball experience for all of the players, coaches, umpires, volunteers, and spectators at all LCC Baseball functions.

There are several important safety guidelines and rule changes that will be in place, as we seek to play baseball in a safe and responsible manner.  We operate under the Little League umbrella and institute these restrictions in accordance with recommendations from the CDC, Michigan Health Department, and Little League International.  PLEASE READ THEM ALL.  If it is learned that someone is not following the guidelines, the situation will be reviewed by the Executive Board and could result in removal from the league.

General Guidelines

  • All guidelines set by the State of Michigan, Macomb County Health Department, and Little League regarding social distancing MUST always be adhered to.This means players, coaches, spectators, umpires and anyone else on a Little League field during a Little League event must adhere to social distancing guidelines (6 ft apart).
  • A Covid Waiver must be signed by each parent in order to participate. These will be handed out by each team’s Manager.
  • If you are sick, STAY HOME.
  • If any player or member of a players household tests positive for Covid-19, report it to the league so that we may conduct contact tracing and inform those who may have been exposed, per State of Michigan guidelines.
  • Players and coaches must wear masks at all times with the exception being of players while the players are on the field playing the game.Coaches must wear masks while coaching both practices and during games.
  • When masks are worn, they are to be worn properly (i.e. must cover mouth and nose).
  • Game/Practice Guidelines

  • No food (including gum and sunflower seeds) allowed at practices or games at any time.Water bottles must have players name visibly written on each container and cannot be shared.
  • Any baseball that is hit outside of the field of play must only be retrieved by a player and NOT a spectator. If a baseball is touched by a spectator, it must be removed from gameplay.
  • No high fives or hand shakes will be permitted. After games, players may tip their caps to each other after lining up on the foul lines.
  • In Pitching Machine, coaching staff will ‘pitch’ the balls by loading them into the machine.A team player will be along side the machine to make defensive plays.
  • Practices will be restricted, in order to accommodate social distancing requirements. This means drills will need to be designed to accommodate social distancing.

    Manager/Coach/Volunteer Guidelines

  • Coaches and players must wear masks at all times with the exception being players while the players are on the field playing the game.Coaches must wear masks while coaching both practices and during games.
  • Baseballs must remain segregated and limited use. They must be wiped down with sanitary wipes in between innings and uses.During games, warm up balls must be kept separate from game balls.
  • Coaches must sanitize any shared equipment in between uses and after games.Sharing of equipment should be kept to an absolute minimum and only be done if absolutely necessary.
  • Each player must have his/her own fielding glove, batting helmet and bat.No sharing of hats or batting gloves. If having this equipment is an issue, please contact us and we will do what we can to provide any equipment. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide this equipment, but we will do what we can. This includes catcher’s gear.
  • All players and coaches must supply their own hand sanitizer and must use it in accordance with State of Michigan, Macomb County Health Department, and Little League safe practices.(In between innings and after at-bats).The League will provide sanitizing wipes to each teams manager.

Umpire Guidelines

  • Umpires are required to maintain social distancing and wear a mask if umpiring from behind the plate (where social distancing isn’t possible).
  • Team managers will control the game balls so that each ball remains with a single team. That team is required to switch baseballs and sanitize baseballs in between innings.
  • Umpires should not handle baseballs.
  • Any necessary equipment checks are to be visual only.

Conclusion

As this situation is fluid, these restrictions and rule changes may be altered as more information becomes available.  We will communicate any changes as they happen.  All of us at LCCU Little League are working hard to prepare and present a safe and enjoyable baseball season for our community.  It is still possible that requirements will change and we will have to, once again, change our plans.  You can be sure, however, that during this difficult time filled with continued uncertainty, we will do our best to provide a safe, fun activity to help bring our community together.

Thank you all for your support and we hope to see you on the field soon.
