Galaxy Tickets
This year, I have been given some tickets to the Galaxy Game on Sunday, Oct 6 at 2PM. These are for those referees that have given that little extra to the program. We have a number of referees that have referees that have been there to help us with our tournaments, or have been there to ref their 3rd or 4th match when we had no other referees available. You are the ones that we want to recognize. I have been given 45 tickets to hand out. You may be able to purchase extra tickets. Not sure yet. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected]. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested and how many tickets you might need. If you are a youth, we will coordinate a carpool so that you can get there. There is also a possibility that we may get to meet a player afterwards.
Picture Day
This upcoming weekend is Picture Day. We always have problems covering all of the matches. To avoid the chaos, we have decided to spread out the matches to start every 2 hours. I will need your help, so please sign up early and often. If you are a player or a coach, then please check the time of your pictures and then sign up for your matches.
Score Cards not getting filled out properly
The biggest problem that I am running into this year has been game cards are not properly filled out. Here are a few reminders.
1) To record a goal, you will use the 2 columns labeled GOALS SCORED. The 1st column is to be used for goals scored in the first half and the 2nd column is for goals scored in the 2nd half. Enter a clear tally mark for each goal scored.
2) In the columns labeled QTRs PLAYED, put an X in the box for the player that is out for that quarter.
3) When entering the scores at the bottom, enter the score for the team whose card you are marking first. Do NOT just enter the highest first. Example: if the team whose card you are holding is has 2 goals and the other team has 5 goals, you want to record the score as 2-5. The other team will show a score of 5-2.
4) Make sure the date, time and field number are at the bottom.
5) Make sure the coach has entered all of the information at the top of the card
6) Center Referees, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure the cards are correct and properly filled out.
Update your profile with the correct team #s
There are still a number of referees who have not entered their team number in their profile. This can be done when you are logging on to schedule yourself to referee. At the bottom, you should see a profile button which should allow you to update your personal information.
Supplying information to the weekly referee assignment sheet
I realize that some of the pens may be a little thick at the Ref tent, but I need to make sure everybody writes there name and team number legibly. If I can not read your information, your team will not get credit for the refpoints. You also need to make sure your team nbr includes the division, the gender and the team number. Ex: U10B04
If you give your points to another team, you need to indicate this on that sheet at the ref tent. The card is important to have this information, but the sheet at the ref tent is MORE Important.
Verify your ref points
Mistakes are made by the referees and by me when it comes to reporting ref point information. Please check every week. When you login to sign up to referee, you will see a button at the bottom labeled MY SCHEDULE. This should show you all the matches you have for the entire season as well as who you gave your points to.
Training
Some of you are ready to take it to the next level and have told be so. To take the training class to get to the next level, do not wait until you feel you are ready to pass the test. This is a process. When you decide that you are interested in taking it to the next level, take the training course. You can then take that knowledge and apply it as you referee and try to make it to that next level. Once you’ve had the practice, we will get you observed/assessed to get that next level.
We do have some classes coming up. There will be an Intermediate course on 9/24 in Thousand Oaks and an Advanced course in Ventura starting on 9/29. Both of these classes take place over 2-3 days. There will also be another opportunity in December, but that one is in Lancaster. You can sign up for all of these courses by logging into www.eayso.org. In the upper right hand corner, click on MyAYSO and then Course signup.
Again, if you have any questions, please call me.
Uniforms
It is very important that you dress the part of a referee. Everybody has been given a shirt, shorts and socks. Please use them. Tuck your shirt in and pull the socks up. It is sooo true that you will get less hassle from the parents/coaches if you look neat and clean.
Can not see or sign up for the higher level matches
When many of you sign up to referee, you give me a level that you feel comfortable refereeing. I take that information and assign you a security level that allows you to only view the matches you are comfortable with. As the years go by, you become a better referee and want to start doing higher level matches. You need to let me know you are ready for the next level so that I can change that interior security level.
**2013 Requirements of the Referees
Finally and most important, you need to get all of the paperwork and certifications completed. I know this is a hassle, but it is very important. If somebody gets hurt, they can sue you. As long as you have completed the 2013 volunteer registration form and completed both the Safe Haven course and the CDC Concussion training, they can not sue you. As long as you have done everything required of you, you will be protected under the Good Samaritan Law. Again, you need to do your part to be protected.
I believe almost all of you have completed Safe Haven, but many of you still have not completed the CDC Concussion training and some have not completed your 2013 volunteer registration. We will be contacting those that have not shortly, but do not wait. The volunteer form can be entered via www.eayso.org. The Safe Haven and Concussion training can be done through www.aysotraining.org. If you have any questions, please contact me.
I know that there was a lot of information, but it’s all important. If you are interested in the Galaxy tickets, please let me know ASAP. If we do not get enough interest in the tickets, I will open up to the rest. If you are not sure you qualify to get the tickets, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Don’t forget to sign up for this weekend’s matches.
