Melrose Flag Football

Hello Everyone!

We hope you have all been enjoying the summer so far! We are a little way out from the beginning of the season, but here is some important information regarding the 2021 Melrose Flag Football Season! Please read through the entire email as there is information on the schedule, teams, coaches, attire, etc.

The season will begin on September 11th. A full schedule will be released at the beginning of next week. The schedule will detail who you are playing and what field you will be playing on. Each division will play their games at the same time every week, barring any unforeseen field, time, or date changes. Each division will practice and play at the following times:

K - 2nd Grade – 4:00pm – 5:00pm (No games, instructional league)

3rd/4th Grade – Practice at 4:30pm/ Game at 5:00pm

5th/6th Grade – Practice at 5:30pm/ Game at 6:00pm

All practices are on the Cabbage Patch, all games are on Fred Green Field (High School Turf Field).

The season will begin on September 11th and end on November 13th (November 20th potential make up date). There will be no games on September 25 and October 9.

Inclement Weather/Possible Cancellations

Depending on the severity of inclement weather or potential rescheduling of MHS Athletics during the scheduled time for Flag Football, games may be cancelled. The program will run in most weather (light to moderate rain or snow, cold weather, etc.) with the exception of the potential closure of the Cabbage Patch. If the program is cancelled due to inclement weather or HS Athletics, the date will not be made up.

Rosters will be sent to coaches on August 26th. It will be the coach’s responsibility to reach out to their teams. If you do not hear from your coach by September 7th, please reach out to us for assistance.

Rosters will be built based on teammate requests, coach requests, skill and ability, school attending, height, and experience. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible, but please remember that not all requests are guaranteed.

Anyone who plans on coaching this season, we need you fill out a mandatory Recreation Complete Volunteer packet, which includes a CORI form and a volunteer form. Along with the forms we NEED a copy of your driver’s license. IF YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS IS NOT ON THE FRONT OF YOUR LICENSE, WE NEED A COPY OF THE BACK OF YOUR LICENSE WITH YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS LISTED.

If you are interested in coaching and did not list yourself as a volunteer during registration, please reach out to the Recreation Department.

Reversible jerseys will be given out to players at the field on September 11th, prior to their practice/game.

Players should wear their reversible jersey every week. Players can wear sneakers or cleats. If they choose cleats they cannot be metal.

All players are required to wear a mouth guard in order to play in their game.

No Jewelry!

**Masks are currently optional for all Melrose Recreation Outdoor Programs**

Fred Green Field

All games will be played on Fred Green Field. The field will be divided into four different fields with four games all going on at once.

The only ones allowed on the field are coaches, players, and referees. Everyone else must be in the stands. Only coaches who have filled out a Complete Volunteer Packet are allowed on the field with their team.

There is no food or drinks other than water allowed on the field at all times (No Gatorade, Coffee, etc)!

Rules will be sent out as we get closer to the season. We will send them out far enough in advance for everyone to get familiar with them.

The Recreation Department will supply all footballs, flags, and cones every week.
