SDA alumni Caroline Kopp, a senior at University at Albany, now holds the record for all-time U-Albany assists. She has 17 assists and two goals, so far, during her college career.
Kopp, a graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt, plays defense. “I’ve always been a defender, whether it was in the middle or the outside. I like outside back better because I have more freedom to move up,” she says.
She selected Albany for college because the school had such a wide range of academic options, and she wasn’t sure what she wanted to study. Also, she says, she liked the coaches and the team, and on a visit to campus, “I felt like I was at home.” Kopp is a biology major.
Balancing academics with soccer has not been difficult, she says. “You end up budgeting your time, and you only have time for certain things.”
The Great Danes have nine more regular season games, including four at Albany, before their final game against Binghamton on Oct. 21.
