Fall Season Underway

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this unique fall soccer season. We are so pleased that we are able to move forward with the season, and excited to be able to provide a fun and engaging soccer experience for our kids despite the limitations. Now that the first weekend of games is behind us, I wanted to send a few reminders and updates from across the league.

COVID-19 Precautions
Obviously our primary concern and focus remains the safety and health of your children and your families. We remind you of the policies that are required by the state of Ohio order concerning youth sports:
Players, coaches, officials, and spectators must conduct daily symptom assessments before each practice or game. We are relying on parents to conduct this symptom assessment for your own household. If anyone in the home is experiencing symptoms you must stay home. According to the CDC, symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, headache, loss of taste or smell, or sore throat. A full list of symptoms and a self-assessment guide are available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html.
Family and household members should sit together socially distanced from other household groups. Six-feet social distancing must be maintained between household groups. This seemed to work very well this weekend, and we appreciate your help adhering to this requirement.
Spectators must wear face coverings at all times except for the reasons listed in the Director's general order, including: 1) the individual is under 10 years of age; 2) the individual has a medical condition that would make wearing a facial covering unsafe.
There should be no congregating before or after practices or games. We all love seeing one another, but please help us be compliant with this requirement.

Travel League
The travel season kicked off this weekend for all three of our travel teams (U15, U12, U10) and our older rec teams (U15 and U12). We are taking all precautions to keep our players safe as they play against teams from other communities, and specific procedures at other venues will be communicated to parents ahead of time. Due to a shortage of referees in northeast Ohio, the Ohio Travel Soccer League (OHTSL) is recommending that we identify parents or others who could be available to referee in our community in an emergency. These individuals do NOT need to have current certifications, but they do need to have a concussion certification. Anyone with previous reffing experience or with familiarity with the sport and would be interested can reach out to Luke Lemieux at [email protected].

House League
The house league also started our playday model of games this Saturday morning. The approach appeared to work well and the kids were involved, were having fun, and were definitely tired by the end! We will continue with this model through the fall season. On Saturday mornings each age group will have their own time slot. We will divide up into small-sided games and rotate opponents periodically. This will allow every player to be on the field the entire time and to maximize touches on the ball. For U8 and U10 we used adult goalkeepers to help with the flow of the game. The Saturday schedule is as follows:
U10 - 9:00 am - 10:00 am
U08 - 10:15 am - 11:15 am
U5/U6 - 11:30 am - 12:15 pm

In addition to the Saturday morning sessions U8 and U10 age groups will have a mid-week practice this week on Thursday from 6:30 - 7:30.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this unique fall soccer season. We are so pleased that we are able to move forward with the season, and excited to be able to provide a fun and engaging soccer experience for our kids despite the limitations. There is a need for additional parents to get involved in helping move the league forward. Due to the pandemic we had to delay our spring league meeting, and are overdue for elections to our executive board. There are positions available for parents who would like to help us continue to provide the best possible experience for our kids. There are board positions that do not require any specific soccer knowledge, just a desire to be involved! If you want to help out and coaching is not your thing, this is your chance! If you have interest please contact me at [email protected].

Uniforms
Uniforms should be arriving today and will be available at practices this week. More details will come from coaches (for travel teams) or from Mike French (for house league players).

For any parents with outstanding balances, please log in to the website to take care of those. We want to avoid any delay in distributing uniforms, and balances must be resolved first.

On behalf of the EYSO board, thank you again for all you do to make EYSO a great experience for our kids! Thank you also for your help in ensuring the safety of all who participate in our activities. We wish you a safe and healthy fall season!

Sincerely,
Nate
