What is WIldfire?
The Charlton Wildfire is a USA Softball sanctioned competitive travel softball program.  Wildfire's focus is to provide a fun and competitive environment for girls to grow their softball skills, compete in tournaments, expand their love of the game, and learn the value of teamwork.

When does Wildfire play games?
Wildfire teams will compete in several (4-5) weekend tournaments throughout the spring and summer (older divisions may enter a few additional fall/winter tournaments).  Tournament locations vary, but most will be in New England, and most will be within 1.5 hour drive.  These are full weekend commitments, including the possibility of games on Friday evening.  Tournaments consist of "pool games" on Friday & Saturday, with elimination games on Sunday.  The tournament schedule typically begins in earnest around Memorial Day, and will go into late July (16u can start and go later due to high school commitments).

What is the level of commitment?
It is expected that players selected to the teams will make EVERY effort to attend all practices and tournaments.  This includes planning vacations around tournament commitments, or delaying vacations until the tournament season is completed.  Tournament schedules are typically known in March/April at the latest. (You will notice the use of "typically" or "usually", as tournaments can shift weeks from year-to-year, and we cannot guarantee dates until the spring).  Not making the commitment can impact your selection to the team, and repeated absences can result in removal from the team.

Is there an off-season training program?
Yes, teams will practice in the fall, and throughout the winter.  The practice schedule is left to the individual coach.  Please note, that during the spring recreational/school softball season, practices will be rare (mostly tune ups for tournaments).

Who can tryout for Wildfire?
For our 10u and 12u teams, we limit tryouts to girls that play in the Charlton Recreational League.  For our 14u and 16u teams, tryouts are open to any age appropriate girl regardless of home town. At the 14u and 16u levels, we assemble the best team possible to compete with other organizations.  That can result in a girl from Charlton not receiving a spot on the team over a girl from another town.

What is the cost?
The cost can vary, as tournament costs change every year.  Typically for the younger divisions (10u & 12u) the cost is around $400-$500, while the older divisions can be $600-$800.  This includes uniform shirts, socks, belt, helmet, bat bag (catcher's bag), tournament fees, USA Softball registration and insurance costs, and a practice shirt.
