About North Avondale Soccer

North Avondale is an official District of Cincinnati East SAY, which is an official Area within Soccer Association for Youth (SAY), a national organization that promotes player participation, sound instruction and safe, enjoyable, fair play. Boys and girls of all sizes and skills participate in this rapidly growing, recreational soccer program. The SAY Rulebook has detailed laws and procedures on matters such as team formation (blind draws, no stacking), playing time (all players must play half the game), player eligibility, team formation, equitable playing time and sportsmanship.

1st-6th grade children must live in North Avondale or attend school in North Avondale AND be six years old by July 31 this calendar year to join a North Avondale SAY team.  (Players who move out of the neighborhood or transfer schools but wish to remain with our program may continue to play with NASAY if they choose.  Kindergartners may play in the spring as long as they will be 6 by July 31st and will be in 1st grade in the fall.)  We have teams for boys and girls at three levels:  Passers 6-7 yrs old, Wings 8-9 yrs old and Strikers 10-11 yrs old.  If there is enough interest to form a team, we can have a Kickers 12-13 year old team.

Registration is $40/season.  Uniforms are $25/jersey, $15/shorts, $5/socks (maroon or black shorts and soccer socks can be purchased separately).  Fall Soccer Registration is open through Father's Day (June 21st.)

Fall practices begin in late August, and Spring Practices begin in late March. SAY is a 100% volunteer organization, and we can only have teams if there are parent volunteers to coach. You will receive your game schedule and game location approximately 4 days before your first game.  The SAY East Area publishes game schedules, and coaches will relay that information to parents as they receive it.  Practice days and times are set by the coach.

Only those players included on the team roster may play in a SAY game.  This ensures fairness and that all players are covered by insurance.  Players are assigned to teams by a “blind draft” governed by SAY rules.  NASAY District Representative Laurie Cotton and the SAY Area Representative will handle this draft. No requests for specific team assignments can be considered. Coaches cannot assign players to their team.

Our program requires many coaches, assistant coaches, and referees.  Our coaches and their assistants are volunteers.   We must have sufficient number of coaches to form teams.   New coaches attend a league-sponsored clinic to review the basics of soccer and then serve as assistant coaches for at least one season. It is a great way to get involved with your children.

If you would like to coach, complete the Volunteer Signup portion during registration.  Our league needs adults and children to serve as referees.  Children must be 12 years old to referee.  This is a great way to earn some extra cash.  Please note your interest or your child’s interest in refereeing while completing registration.

Questions and concerns always come up.  Many times, these questions are based on parents not being familiar with the formal rules of soccer, Cincinnati East League, or NASAY. The best way for you to get your questions answered is to talk directly with your child’s coach.  If after talking with your child’s coach you still have concerns, please feel free to contact any of our board members. Our players will move from team to team with different coaches over the years that they participate in our program.  Occasionally individual players and / or their parents feel they have differences with a specific coach and request an exemption so that their child is not assigned to that coach in the future.  If you have spoken with the coach and tried to get resolution, and still have differences, the board will carefully review these concerns and attempt to resolve them. Any such concerns must be put in writing sent to [email protected],  and  will  be  forwarded  to  the  district representative for review.
