STAR Soccer: Success Through Adaptive Rec Soccer

Hendricks Community Soccer is very proud to offer our STAR Soccer program to the children in our community with special needs and abilities. STAR Soccer stands for Success Through Adaptive Rec Soccer, and the goal of our STAR program is to adapt the game of soccer for all special needs and abilities, and to give kids with special needs the ability to participate in the same soccer programs that their siblings participate in.

STAR Soccer is a unique recreational soccer program because:

  • Placement is made by ability, not by age.
  • Skills sessions are adapted to the abilities of the players.
  • Game rules are modified to emphasize player success.
  • Success is not determined by the score; success is determined by happiness and fun, and measured in high fives and hugs.

Thanks to the dedication and wonderful leadership of our STAR Director and volunteer coaches, the program has grown tremendously in the past couple of years.  We now have two different STAR teams to accommodate the varying levels of ability of all of the children who participate in this program.

Practices are on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Hendricks Community Soccer fields.  Games are on Saturdays. The time will be consistent from week to week, and will be determined each season based on the number of participants.  Ideally, at the first practice of each season, we will assign the participants a place on either a competitive or a non-competitive STAR team in order to accommodate the wide range of abilities of our STAR players.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact the Hendricks Community Soccer STAR Director, Dave Romie, at  the contact info below.

Registration for the STAR Soccer Program is available on our registration page (when registration is active). All eligible children will be placed on a team.   If you are registering your child to participate in STAR Soccer for the first time, we will need you to provide a copy of your player's birth certificate.

Because the STAR program has been so successful and added so many participants in the past few years, we could definitely use help at both practices and games.  If you would like to help out with the STAR practices or games, either individually or as a team, please contact our STAR Director, Dave Romie.
