Vikings Suffer First Defeat of the Season at the Hands of the 49ers

A strong football team in their own right, the Vikings fought valiantly against a skilled 49ers squad that was ultimately just too much to handle. The final score was 40-0, but there were still some high points for the Vikings on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

The Vikings defense was lead by Brody "the Boss" Pennow, who excelled in open field tackling--literally saving a touchdown on multiple occasions. Right by his side in the defensive department was Eizak "Iceman" Skinner who likewise made a number of last chance tackles. Brady "the Bear" Ruzicka and Charlie "the Charger" Savoie rounded out the defensive effort with multiple tackles of their own, and Josh "the Jaguar" Forsgren was mere fingertips away from tackling a number of speeding 49ers as well.

On the offensive side, Jayce "the Jam Master" Caldwell ran two excellent pass routes, with both passes glancing just off his finger tips. Miles "Money" Schmidt repeatedly found his way behind the 49ers back line defense on well timed receiving routes that were very close to being long receptions and potential touchdowns. At running back, Carson "the Cruiser" Brooks got back up repeatedly after taking myriad beatings from a tough 49ers defense. He kept his head up and kept running hard. "Lucky" Luke Tibbitts also added a strong run on offense.

In a postgame interview, head coach Tayler Tibbitts took the blame for the loss: "Look, in a game like this, it's clear that I was out coached. And I take all the blame for that. But the silver lining is that we saw a number of things we can work on to become a better football team, and you can bet your buttered biscuit that we'll be making those adjustments." Heady defensive play calling by Coach Russell Brooks and great sideline coaching by Coach Russ Schmidt kept the game from going off the rails.

The Vikings have had a strong week of practice and are well prepared for their third game of the season. They will be visiting the Colts at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow on Stinker Stores field. Josh Forsgren has treats, Brady Ruzicka drinks, with the Ruzicka family on down markers (if needs be). Please have your son to the field by 10:00 a.m.
