In February 2013, King was selected in the third round (19th overall) of the 2013 NWSL College Draft by the Washington Spirit for the inaugural season of the National Women's Soccer League. King also played for the Eastern Conference Champion D.C. United Women’s.

College - King attended the University of Florida where she played for the Gators from 2009 to 2012. As a senior in 2012, she started every match as a holding midfielder and ranked fifth among the team with a career season-high 14 points. She was a third-team selection to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Season, and No. 22 on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s final top 100 upperclassmen list of 2012. She earned 2012 All-America and Academic All-America, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, All-SEC first team honors. She was one of six students to receive the Outstanding Leadership Award from UF Alumni Association at May 2013 commencement ceremonies. In 2011, she was named Academic All-America, NSCAA All-South Region second team, All-SEC, and also named to SEC All-Tournament team.
