W-League Awards Finalists Announced

TAMPA, Fla. – The W-League announced the finalists for its 2014 regular season honors today. The awards for Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year and Coach of the Year will be presented at Saturday’s Awards Banquet for the 2014 W-League Championship presented by Nike.

Thirteen W-League teams are represented among the finalists, with the Washington Spirit Reserves leading the way with three nominations. Sam Lofton of the Spirit Reserves is the only dual nominee, as she is a finalist for both Rookie of the Year and Defender of the Year.

Seven of the nominees, including Lofton, will participate in the 2014 W-League Championship presented by Nike Friday and Sunday in Bradenton. Votes for W-League honors are submitted by W-League team management and finalists are determined by All-Conference voting.

The 2014 W-League Championship presented by Nike will see the Lady Eagles, Blues, Fury and Spirit Reserves vying for the title Friday and Sunday at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The winners from Friday’s semifinal will advance to the 2014 W-League Championship final at 2:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

Both of Friday’s semifinal matchups and Sunday’s championship and consolation matches will be available live on the W-League YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/uslwleague.
