Fusion Boys Champions!
It was a beautiful night for a soccer and a great challenge for the boys as they get ready for the league playoffs in June.
With a win the boys would secure the outright regular season championship, and finish the season with an impressive record of 7-0-1. But it would not come easy!
AMFC cobras would prove to be a very difficult challenge, with some very skilled players. "I thought they were very good individually on the ball, and also worked well in 2v2/3v2 situations too" stated Coach Mitchell. The Cobras would take the early lead after getting behind the Fusion defense and tucking the ball past a diving Doug Sanor.
With plenty of time left in the game the Fusion team dug in and began to take control of the match. "I felt like there was still plenty of time left in the match for us after they netted the first goal" mentioned Coach Mitchell. "After we give one up, I was looking to see how they would react and what kind of attitude they would show. They quickly turned things around and started to get more physical on defense, while working on building the play out of the back in possession, both things we work hard on in training". Fusion equalized when Tanyon Wallace found the back of the net with a great shot.
The second half was a battle back and forth between the two teams. Each creating some great chances on goal. However, in the final moments of the match Tanyon Wallace picked up his second goal of the game and put Fusion ahead. A few moments later, Jace Gibbons ensured a victory, scoring his first of the game, and Fusion's third. "I told them after the game that I was very proud of all of them for stepping up to the challenge and fighting to the end", stated Coach Mitchell. "It was a total team effort tonight and they gave it their all. Grant Slaton, Cole Sanor and Doug Sanor all did a great job defensively in making sure that they had limited chances on goal. It's also been great to see how much Doug and Cole Sanor have developed this session as keepers. They come up with some huge saves for us, allowing us to stay in match. Tanyon and Jace have learned to play well together up top and combine with each other creating a lot of chances on goal for us. David Hoebeke and Shaylie Miller are the glue that hold us together and do a fantastic job of moving the ball from the back to the front, and side to side when we need it. All of them did a great job these past eight games and have earned the right to be in the playoffs."
F.C. Fusion boys are set to participate in the GAASA League Playoffs on June 6th, at the Copley soccer complex. Their opponent is TBD.
