Big second half propels varsity to quarterfinal win

After a deadlocked first half, the floodgates opened for Forest Hills Field Hockey, who soundly defeated St. Catherine of Siena 6-0 Tuesday in the MHSFHA Division II quarterfinal.

Despite several chances in the first half, the home team was unable to get on the board, including a goal that was called back on an offensive foul. Forest Hills outshot the Stars 8-0 in the first half.

The story was far different in the second half, however, as the favorites scored early and often, with six different players getting on the score sheet for Forest Hills.

Emma Dodson tipped in a pass from Josie David to open the scoring on a penalty corner, and Forest Hills immediately found their confidence, putting in two more penalty corner goals by Caitlin Murphy and Madisyn Bunke in the next three minutes. Suddenly, a very tense game at halftime was put out of reach within nine minutes of the second half.

Katie Slywka, Josie David, and Talea Fournier closed out the scoring for the home team.

Forest Hills now travels to Dearborn Thursday for the state semifinal against Hartland. Hartland pulled out a tight 2-1 victory in the regular-season meeting between the two teams.
