Rose Parade

Donations still welcome to enhance this fantastic 50th anniversary opportunityWhat is the opportunity? AYSO has raised the funds to kick off its 50th anniversary in 2014 with a float in the Rose Parade! Over $100,000 was donated by AYSO Regions, Areas, Sections and individuals from across the U.S. to make this possible. The parade, officially the Tournament of Roses Parade, is "America's New Year Celebration" held in Pasadena, California, a festival of flower-covered floats, marching bands, equestrians and the Rose Bowl college football game on New Year's Day, produced by the non-profit Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. What is the deadline for donations? Our deadline to hit a minimum of $100,000 in cash and pledges was March 15, 2013. We met our goal with 24 hours to spare. Donations continue to be welcome to both enhance the float and add to the AYSO 50th anniversary activities around the float and parade. What are some quick facts about Rose Parade viewership? 43,000,000 viewers will watch the parade on nationwide TV 13% of all U.S. households will be watching Families with AYSO-age children are the dominant audience The parade will be on both English and Spanish-language TV 700,000 people will watch along the parade route How will AYSO be represented on this float? AYSO is partnering with the City of Torrance and the theme of the float will be “Torrance, birthplace of AYSO.” Why are we working with the City of Torrance? The City of Torrance had its first float in the Rose Parade in 1914...so 2014 will be their 100th anniversary of involvement in the parade. Because of their long history in the parade, they get both special pricing and, often, special placement. In 2013, they were the second float in the parade! But like cities across the U.S., budget cuts have made it impossible for them to afford the float on their own. They had planned not to do a float in 2014 unless they found a partner. The City of Torrance also has a citizen’s Rose Float Association that will coordinate decorating, recruiting volunteers and helping to make this float experience possible. What’s the value to AYSO Regions? It is estimated that the Rose Parade floats can have as much as $1,000,000 of PR and earned media value. AYSO will kick off its 50th anniversary on January 1, 2014 and will work with the City of Torrance to create as much buzz as possible around the float...including AYSO alumni celebrities, AYSO contest winners and special promotional opportunities. How does our Region, Area or Section donate? By check made out to “AYSO”. Anywhere on the check, note “Rose Float” so that it is applied to the right place. Send the check to: AYSO Rose Float 19750 S. Vermont Ave. Suite 200 Torrance, CA 90502 What's the NAP code my Region should use? The NAP code for the Rose Bowl Float is 5275. Is there a required amount that each Region, Area or Section must donate? No Region, Area or Section is required to donate to this project. But we hope that everyone will want to chip in! This is a project of all of AYSO. Can an individual donate? Yes! Either by check as above, or via a credit card at http://www.razoo.com/story/Help-Ayso-Get-A-Rose-Float What’s the history of The Rose Parade? Originally started on January 1, 1890, the Rose Parade is watched in person by hundreds of thousands of spectators on the parade route, and is broadcast on multiple television networks in the United States (ABC holds the official contract, but because it is a public parade, other networks are allowed to produce their own coverage). It is seen by millions more on television worldwide in more than 200 international territories and countries. The Rose Bowl college football game was added in 1902 to help fund the cost of staging the parade. Has AYSO had a Rose Parade float before? Yes! In 1979, for AYSO’s 15th anniversary, AYSO was the theme of the float of the Sons & Daughters of the Golden West.
