Academy Little League

About Academy Little League

Academy Little League was founded in 1995. The league's founding fathers realized the demand for youth baseball in northern Colorado Springs could support a separate league (some of our early players began in Colorado Springs Little League, which was the original league that supported the city). Our league name was adopted in recognition of our proximity to the United States Air Force Academy. In fact, our league's logo depicts the most famous landmark on the Academy, the Cadet Chapel. Our league's colors are red, white, and blue to further highlight our league's visible support to our nation and the colors of the flag. We have had two league pins in our eight year history. The first (designed in 1996) was silver/powder blue and had the Cadet Chapel as its predominant feature with the words "Academy Little League" inscribed below it. The second pin (designed in 2000) is identical to our league logo. It is red/white/navy blue and has the Cadet Chapel centrally located inside a baseball diamond with the word "Academy" in script below it and the words "Little League" in the tail. Colorado Springs, CO is inscribed immediately below this.

During its inaugural year, Academy Little League had approximately 200 players. In ten years the league has quadrupled in size; in 2006 there were 62 teams with over 800 players.

In the fall of 2015, the parents and children of Academy Little League were heartbroken to learn that our home fields of ten years, the Fields at Focus, would be demolished to make room for a shopping center. We knew that securing land and funds to build new fields would be difficult, but we were determined to find a new home for our community’s ballplayers. Academy Little League is thrilled to announce an opportunity to build new fields at the Scott Hall Field of Dreams complex in Colorado Springs. This complex would provide a permanent home for the league and our ballplayers. Financial support is needed to make these fields a reality. Please consider a contribution as we need all our members to be a driving force behind the future of Academy Little League.

The league has traditionally hosted a Memorial Day Tournament. In 2001 and 2002 it was named in honor of Rick Lewandowski, a former Academy Little League coach and parent who passed away in 2000. In 2003 the tournament was named in honor of Tony Lopez, a standout baseball player at Liberty High school who passed away in 1999.

Of special note is the league's appreciation to Rob Wise--one of the original founding fathers--who performed many jobs, and almost single-handedly ran the league during its early years. Rob passed away in 2004.
