How do I become a certified AYSO Coach?

Steps To Becoming A Certified AYSO Coach

Welcome to the AYSO Coach Certification page.  All of the information needed to become an AYSO Certified Coach can be found below, along with important links to sites that will help you along your way.  Whether you're a new volunteer wanting to share your time with our kids, or a seasoned veteran answering our call for help, we are glad and lucky to have you.  As you may already know, our National AYSO entity takes pride in keeping our children safe, and providing a fun and fair environment in which they can play Soccer.  As an AYSO Coach you will have a first hand opportunity to influence all three of the above mentioned ideas, (safe, fun and fair).  As you can imagine, a Coach is a true role model for the youth of our soccer program.  It can be a great opportunity to be an example of positivity, good sportsmanship, self respect, perseverance, and fun among other great qualities.  Unfortunately, a bad coach can exhibit the complete opposite, and make the season miserable for all involved, most importantly our children.  This is precisely why as a regional board team, we take great care to select coaches that fit into the positive aspects.
As you begin the process outlined below, please don't feel overwhelmed.  Steps 1-3 can be completed in a couple of hours, step 4 is an appointment with Hesperia Park & Rec for fingerprinting, and step 5 is the fun full day training course that flies by.  Don't forget, feel free to reach out to any board member with any questions you may have, we are here to help.  Thank you!

Step 1

Regional Volunteer Form (5-10 Minutes):

This form initiates the AYSO background check, and needs to be completed yearly.

Step 2

Safe Haven Training (1 Hour):

AYSO’s Safe Haven® program is designed to address the growing need for Child and Volunteer Protection in youth sports. The components of the program help create a safe, fun, fair and positive environment - “safe haven” - for all participants.

This training can be taken online:
www.aysotraining.org

You will need your AYSO ID# which you will receive with your volunteer form registration.

Step 3

Concussion Awareness Training (45 minutes):

This is a new requirement for all Coaches, Asst Coaches & Team Paremts.  This training helps us identify possible concussion scenarios and how to react to those possibilities.

This training can be taken online:
www.aysotraining.org

You will need your AYSO ID# which you will receive with your volunteer form registration.

Step 4

Hesperia Park & Rec Fingerprinting (Appointment With Hesperia Park & Rec Needed)

In order to be in compliance with Hesperia Park & Rec requirements, you must be fingerprinted through the park system.  This only needs to be done 1 time.  Contact Hesperia Park & Rec to make an appointment:

Step 5

Coach Certification Training (Various Dates/Times)

This is the training course that will certify you to coach ay a specific division level.  Typically this is a 9-5 style class that includes classroom and fieldwork.  Upon successful completion of this course, you will be certified and in compliance with AYSO's Coach Training requirements.  There are usually 2-3 local courses per year in various division levels, most being in the late summer timeframe.  However, check out the link below for a searchable database.
