The good news is that for this coming year we are introducing a great new option in combination with the New York Cosmos.

Given the level of interest by the many incoming second graders wanting to play soccer at a higher level, we have introduced a developmental program for the incoming 2nd grade girls and boys this coming year.  Girls and boys will train separately but at the same time.
 
The program will consist of one extra practice per week (in addition to core) which will include more skills training, conditioning, inter program scrimmages and occasional “friendly” games against other 2nd grade teams if available and practical and possibly a few occasional tournaments.  Most of the training will be provided by trainers from the NY Cosmos Soccer club, with whom our Region has formed a strategic partnership for the 2013-2014 season and beyond.
 
The goal of the developmental program will be on:

• Skill development
• Increasing soccer I.Q. by increasing knowledge and understanding of the game
• Having fun, which will make them more willing to learn about soccer and improve their playing.

 
The developmental program will be open to all second and third graders enrolled in the core AYSO program. 
 
Recognizing that children develop differently, we expect to periodically group the players by skill level- to allow players to develop at their appropriate rate and be appropriately challenged.  For scrimmages, games and tournaments, teams will regularly be changed so all of the players will get to play together and everyone has a chance to participate. There will be no A or B team.
 
Ultimately we believe this will afford interested children the opportunity to become more skilled soccer players while better preparing them for a more advanced level of play they will see as they get older.
