** Review of the rulebook is required for all Coaches. Please note that while District 7 and Sheldon Little League operate within the framework of rules and regulation of Little League, both the district and league are autonomous. We maintain an organization best suited to meet the needs of Little League in the community.

Volunteer Information

Sheldon Little League cannot operate without the volunteer efforts of parents and community members. Like all Little Leagues, we are run and operated entirely by volunteers. As such, all parents are requested to volunteer some amount of their own time to help make the league successful. Please allow Sheldon Little League to thank you in advance for your volunteer time, as the kids really benefit from your efforts.

Please email s[email protected] if you have questions about volunteering. There are volunteer opportunities regardless how much time you have to give. Maybe you just have an hour or two during registration to help or you are able to commit to coaching a team.

Required Trainings for Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers

In-Season Volunteer Opportunities

The following opportunities are available for you to select while registering your child to play Sheldon Little League:

Head Coach - The Little League coach must be a leader. All must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development. It is required that the coach have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children. The coach should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, coaches must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people.

The Little League coach must be something more than just a teacher of the game. Knowledge of the game is essential, but it is not the only badge of a Little League coach. While an adult with training and background in the game is a desirable candidate for coach, the league looks for other important qualities too. Screening of coaches and others at the local league level who have contact with children is  important to discover and prevent those with a history of child abuse from interacting with the kids.

The heart of Little League is what happens between the coach and players. It is the coach more than any other individual who controls the situation in which the players may be benefited. Improving the level of leadership in this vital area must be a continuing effort.

Assistant Coach - The Little League assistant coach plays a vital role to the team's overall experience throughout the season.  They help coordinate practice, handle coaching duties when the head coach isn't available, coaches on the field during the game and other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Team Manager - Assists the head coach by communicating to parents regarding team activities (practices, games, cancellations, fundraisers, etc.), as well as, from time to time, communicating with the league board. A Team Manager must be organized and be able to clearly communicate messages out to the team.

Grounds Committee Member – Support the league by helping with field maintenance, removing weeds, dragging the fields, preparing and securing bases, etc. The league Grounds Committee ensures the fields of play are ready for the kiddos! Time commitment is 1–3 hours per week with 1–2 cleanup days at the start of the season.

If you have questions about volunteering for the league, email s[email protected].
