Welcome to the CYFL

Welcome to the CYFL

The CYFL was started with the purpose of providing youth in the Springfield area with a safe playing environment, quality equipment and trained, certified coaches.  The CYFL strives to teach each player the fundamentals of football, sportsmanship, self esteem, teamwork and leadership in a confidence building atmosphere of positive reinforcement.
The Champion Youth Football League's goal is to raise the level of play in and around the Springfield area.  Our quality youth football program created by USA Football and endorsed by the NFL, strives to prepare the young athlete for middle school, high school and college programs and beyond.  Our program is for those players ages 5 years old to 11 years old that want to learn and play the game at the next level. The CYFL has five divisions of Tackle and two divisions of Flag (new to the CYFL this year) determined by age.

The CYFL Tackle Football League divisions are:

  • Rookie Division is for 6 & 7 year olds with a ball carrier weight limit of 75 lbs.
  • Freshman Division is for 7 & 8 year olds with a ball carrier weight limit of 90 lbs.
  • Junior Varsity Division is for 8 & 9 year olds with a ball carrier weight limit of 105 lbs.
  • Varsity Division is for 9 & 10 year olds with a ball carrier weight limit of 120 lbs.
  • Pro Division is for 10 & 11 year olds with no ball carrier limit.

The CYFL Flag Football League divisions are:

  • Sprouts for 5 & 6 year olds.
  • Rookie Flag for 6 & 7 year olds.

CYFL Flag Football will be a 7 on 7 league that will allow young players the opportunity to build a solid base of fundamentals and gain a multitude of football skills without the contact, blocking, or screening of tackle.  In doing this, it provides a safe and enjoyable way to introduce children to the sport of football.By determining division eligibility by age and not grade, it ensures that your child will be playing against kids of the same age during this early time in their football skill development.   Eligibility is determined by a child's age as of July 1st of the current year.  However, if a child will be enrolled in the 7th grade during the current season, they will not be eligible to play in the CYFL due to conflicts with Middle School fall football programs. We also provide our players and families the opportunity to develop tenure with a single team, eliminating the need to start over each season with a new coach and a new team.  We provide our coaches the opportunity to register entire teams, build teams, or pick up a few players if needed from our draft.

In 2013, USA Football, Football's National Governing Body, introduced the Heads Up Football Program which is a comprehensive approach for a better, safer game, with an emphasis on safety.  The NFL is changing the way the game is played and USA Football is leading the way by making the same changes in youth football by training coaches, parents and players on a safer way to play.  The CYFL supports and is fully implementing the "Heads Up Program" which emphasizes safety by teaching the proper tackling and blocking techniques as well as limiting full contact at practices to reduce the chance for injury.
In addition to implementing USA Football's Heads Up Football Program, the CYFL takes the following safety precautions:

  • All coaches must go through the screening process, including a background check.  They are also required to complete and pass USA Football's online training and certification courses as well as attend a CYFL Safety Clinic led by CYFL's USA Football trained Safety Officer.
  • CYFL utilizes three adult MSHSAA Certified Officials refereeing each game.  They will enforce the rules of the game as well as make sure all coaches and players are following CYFL's Code of Conduct.
  • CYFL has a licensed EMT on the sidelines of every game.  The EMT walks with the line of scrimmage, observing the game, and is ready to assist any players as needed.
  • At least one CYFL Official is on the sidelines during every game.
  • All games are played at High School Football Stadiums in Springfield, MO on crumb-rubber synthetic turf fields.

CHAMPION YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE BELIEVES THAT SAFETY IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO OUR YOUTH .The CYFL is bringing a better and safer youth football program to the Springfield area. Our coaches are screened and certified.  The CYFL season consists of  5 regular season games with playoffs and a championship game in each division.Another exciting change to the CYFL in 2015 includes the addition of Cheer!  This will allow young children the opportunity to learn fundamental cheer skills and to perform during the football games.  All participants will lead the cheers from the track beside the football field. The CYFL Cheer divisions are

  • Cheer is for 5-11 year olds

Cheer eligibility will be determined by a child's age as of July 1st of the current year.We appreciate everyone who joined us for our exciting 2013 inaugural season!  We are looking forward to seeing all those returning and welcome those who are joining us for the first time this year.  Season 3 of the CYFL is already shaping up to be great!
