Intro Letter

Welcome to Wheatland Baseball 2013.

My name is John Davidson and I will be coaching your 1st grader this summer.  Brian Kwilosz and Jason Morgan have offered their time as assistant coaches. About me... I grew up in Naperville, then lived in Evanston for a number of years, and my family and I moved back to Naperville last Summer.  My son, Charlie, is a first grader at Brookdale. I also have a daughter, Nora, who is already looking forward to Kindergarten in the Fall.  For almost 20 years, I coached sports at the collegiate level and ran camps for kids from ages 7 to 17.  Last year was my first experience coaching baseball/Tee ball and I enjoyed it as much as anything I have ever done in sports.  This will be my first year working with Wheatland.

My goals are always the same- to make sure kids have a great time, improve their skills and develop a love for the sport.  At this age, we're not ultra-competitive, but we will be upping things by including strikeouts and a per AB pitch limit this year.  Good reminder to parents and kids alike...sports teach us more about how to lose than how to win.  I will send a follow up note with game rules and we will review these rules during practices with the kids.

I attended this week's Coaches Meeting and received our team roster, uniforms and schedule (games will be Mon and Wed nights at 6:15 starting May 29).  Our team designation is 1RS2-Team 6 and we have been given some nice white BOSTON Red Sox jerseys.

*****Please confirm you received this email by sending me the best contact info for you and your athlete (address, cell, email) and any preferences you have regarding the way I contact you (work, cell, email, all of the above?)*****

I will be regularly emailing you at this address and posting information to our team site on the WAA website. You should be able to access the site thru your child's name once you enter your account info.

In the interest of getting things going, the coaches have scheduled practices during those same Monday and Wednesday 6:15 times starting next week, May 13.  We plan to hold our practices at Kingshill Park (White Eagle Drive and Montgomery, just west of 59).  Our practices will go about 60 minutes.  Once we start playing games on Mondays and Wednesdays, we will likely move to a Saturday practice time.

Again, upcoming practice times...
  • Monday 5/13  6:15pm  Kingshill Park, Naperville
  • Wednesday 5/15  6:15pm  Kingshill Park, Naperville
  • Monday 5/20  6:15pm  Kingshill Park, Naperville
  • Wednesday 5/22   6:15pm  Kingshill Park, Naperville
  • Monday  5/27  NO PRACTICE - MEMORIAL DAY
  • *FIRST GAME* - Wednesday 5/29  6:15pm  Barrington Lake Park
  • Saturday  6/1  TBD, likely morning
One last thing... I need help from you, the parents. Brian, Jason and I have volunteered our time to be coaches, not babysitters. I encourage you to STAY FOR THE DURATION OF PRACTICES AND GAMES if at all possible. This makes everything from potty breaks to injuries to weather issues much easier.  It's also a thousand times more exciting to SEE your child's great catch or hit  than it is to hear about it from him or another parent.

Any of you who might be interested in helping with the team, we can use parents/teenage siblings/grandparents etc. on and off the field with base coaches, helping with practice, wrangling the kids on the bench and lots of things in between. Baseball/Softball experience helps, but is not a requirement. Please let us know what you might be comfortable with and we can find a spot to use you.

We look forward to a great season and we are very excited to get started Monday.
