Indoor Red v Charcoal

This was, by far, the best indoor game of the winter.  Our Red team showed up to play hard and never gave up throughout a back-and-forth battle to the end.  A final tie score of 6-6 was a suitable end to the match demonstrating how evenly matched the teams were.  The level of improvement and commitment shown by our squad was the highlight of my weekend.

The Red Team took the field with Peyton, Logan, Caden, Michael, Caroline, Jenna and Gracie all exhausted from their first 48 minutes on the field with Black Team.  After some much needed rest (6 minutes at most), they came back onto the field and fought for every inch of ground gained throughout.  Jacob, Mason, Kyle and Cameron finished out the squad giving the aforementioned their quick breather on the bench.

Red Team came out quick with a few solid shots on goal, finally finished with a sweet shot by Cameron to bring it to 1-0.  Jacob, on a well timed cross put in our 2nd and 3rd bringing it to 3-0.  Charcoal rallied after our third goal and hammered in two consecutive shots.  Kyle controlled the goal the entire first half, saving 4x as many as slipped by.  The through balls, crosses and finishes the first half were the best we've seen since the fall.  Everyone was on their game.

Second half, things started to get a little 'hands-on'.  The referee handled the spirited play well, quietly warning the players for aggressive play, both teams giving and taking on the run.

Another rallied attack by the same dominating finisher on Charcoal answered our next goal, finished by Jenna (her second for the day), with two more of his own.  The game went into the last 18 minutes tied at 4-4.

Another offensive push brought the score to 6-4 with Logan finishing from a center back drive up the middle and Cameron skirting one into an own goal after it bounced off a Charcoal defender.  The same finisher snaked his way through our now exhausted back line and popped two more quick shots to bring the game to 6-6.

The final minutes were the most exciting.  A last drive with fresh feet up front put 3 more shots on target with one hitting inside the back corner on a long distance arc from Logan (no goal as the ball never completely crossed the back line) and multiple shots by our entire front line that any other keeper, any other day of the week, would not have been able to clear.  It wasn't all about Red Team though as Charcoal hammered Michael in goal with everything they had.  Quick feet, smart play and a relentless back line was the only thing that kept the game from tipping one way or the other.

Final score: Red-6, Charcoal-6
