8u Takes 3rd Place in Indy King of The Mound 9u Open Tournament!

The 8u Motor City Bulldogs travelled to Indiana to play in the 9u King of the Mound Tournament on April 16-17.    The young Bulldogs had to learn the 9u rules (lead-offs, dropped 3rd strike) in a hurry to prepare for the event.   The boys had a great tournament and finished in 3rd place out of 14 teams.

In pool play, the Bulldogs opened with a win in a very tight game against the Southport Cardinals by a score of 15-12.   In the second pool play game the Bulldogs defeated the Indiana Outlaws (the only other 8u team in the tournament) by a score of 17-1. With the 2 victories the Bulldogs earned the #4 seed going into bracket play.

The Bulldogs opened bracket play with a 16-6 victory of the Indiana Outlaws to advance to the Quarter Finals.   In that round the Bulldogs earned a very hard fought 7-5 victory over the Indiana Astros.   The Bulldogs fell behind early and continued to comeback and eventually took the lead back and held on for the win.    In the semi-finals the Bulldogs lost to the Indiana Longhorns 16-1. The Longhorns won the tournament and have won all three open tournaments they have played in this year. I

t was a great experience for the boys and gives them great confidence going into their 8u season.
