Practice Info

I wanted to give everyone an update in regards to where we are at with Flag Football.  I figured that maybe the easiest thing to do was just discuss whether we want to actually have a makeup Sunday practice when we get together this Saturday at 11:00am for our first practice.  Another option to consider, rather than practicing on Sunday, is to just extend our Saturday practice by 20 minutes or so.  Or we can just drop the Sunday practice all together, but we can discuss it on Saturday and I will go with whatever you all would prefer.

In regards to this Saturday morning’s practice, I wanted to let you know that I am completely fine with any parent that would like to assist and help me with drills, etc. during practice.  You certainly don’t have to, but you are more than welcome to if you would like.  Also, here are just a few specific items of note to remember to make sure everyone is prepared for practice:

  • Cleats (just no metal cleats).

  • Shorts with no pockets.

  • Mouthpiece.

  • Water bottle.

  • Don’t worry about flags or footballs, as I will have these at each practice.

My goal is to make sure that everyone learns something at each practice, but most importantly, that everyone has fun and gets to participate in everything.  I am structuring each practice session as building blocks towards the subsequent practices.  That way we will hopefully progress each child’s playing level and progress as a team during the entire season.  Therefore, the first practice will be geared almost exclusively towards teaching the fundamental principles they will need to play the game.  Then the next two practices on March 12th and 13th will build upon those fundamentals and then parlay them into actually learning and executing 4 or 5 basic plays out of a standard 5-man formation.  Once we get that down, we can add more plays and even maybe a different formation or two.  At least that is my goal.  But again, my number one goal for the season is simply that the children learn a little and have a lot of fun!  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Thanks,

Coach Travis
