U19 Boys Run for the State Cup Title Fell Short

Rush Pikes Peak's u19 boys run for the State Cup title fell short. A 2-1 extra-time loss to FC Boulder in the semi-final at the Air Force Academy ended their dream of a state title.

In a match that was delayed twice (2.5 hours total); once for an injury in the previous game and in the 24 minute for lightning, the boys put forth a tremendous effort in a game dominated by midfield possession. FC Boulder broke the tie in the 79th minute, increasing the tension and elevating the urgency with a headed goal from a corner kick.

However, in the 89th minute, a Joel Walker service found the head of Kristian Hooker who nodded the ball home sending the team into elation and the match into 30 more minutes of additional time.

Extra time was very cautious and very deliberate as both teams were hesitant to over-commit and make a mistake. While each team did create opportunities in the 30 minutes, it was a goal in the 99th minute from FC Boulder that sealed the game and sent them to final.

Congratulations to coach Robin Grossman & all of the boys for their fantastic run and success.
