1. Naperville North: “This year I’m going for 30 goals,” senior forward Zoe Swift said. Second-year coach Steve Goletz has superior depth with Sarah Feder, Maria Grygleski, Abby Mangefrida, Caroline Rico and Jillian Van Kampen.

2.  Loyola: The Ramblers return seven starters from a 24-1-1 sectional finalist. All-Area star Corey Burns (Iowa) is one of the state’s most versatile players. Junior Margaret Walker is a lethal scorer and keeper Brittany San Roman is stellar.

3. St. Charles North: The Class 3A runner-up welcomes back nine starters from the 19-6-2 squad that took Naperville North to the brink. Alyssa Brandt, Kelly Manski and Natalie Winkates are elite scorers and playmakers.

4. Barrington: Senior midfielder Molly Pfeiffer leads seven returning starters from the Fillies’ 19-7 supersectional qualifier. Sophomore keeper Hannah Luedtke is an emerging star to go with playmakers Jenna Szczesny, Mia Calamari, Megan Fox, Elli Ackermann and Aimee Pierce.

5. Plainfield North: Sisters Ashley Handwork (16 goals), senior midfielder, and Heather Handwork (17 goals), junior midfielder, lead a group of seven returning starters. Also watch Nikki Auble, Kaela Leskovar, Erin Chynoweth, Shayna Dheel and Brooke Polonus.

6. New Trier: Led by senior midfielder Jess Weaver (13 goals, eight assists), the Trevians return a deep and talented core. Maddie Mulford and Jessie Berman are offensive weapons. Nora Mabie and Sarah Connors lead the defense.

7. Neuqua Valley: Despite the devastating, season-ending knee injury of Zoey Goralski, the state’s top player, the Wildcats remain formidable with senior midfielders Hope D’Addario and Gianna Dal Pozzo.

8. Metea Valley: The Mustangs return 15 varsity players, led by the state’s top keeper, superstar Megan Geldernick. Junior Jenna Kentgen (22 goals) and senior Alyssa Fox are the offensive catalysts. Watch for junior Tyler Proszowski, returning after being sidelined from concussion complications.

9. Glenbrook South: The Titans return 10 starters from a 21-6-4 team that finished fourth in Class 3A. Senior forward April Cronin had 26 goals and nine assists last year. Nicole Sroubek, Carolyn Nash, Emma Sailer and Olivia Pullano are also standouts to watch.

10. Lyons: The Lions return six starters from last year’s 16-6-4 team that boasts one of the state’s elite defenders in Ari Kowalski.

11:  Waubonsie Valley: Senior all-staters Rachele Armand and Jenna Romano are the foundation for the perennial powerhouse. Kristen Dodson is a talented scorer. Coach Julie Berstrom has some very talented freshmen and sophomores.

12:  Sandburg: Morgan Manzke is the standout among four returning starters from a sectional finalist. Meghan Carmody, Emily Osoba and Carly Katalinic are the others to watch.

13: Naperville Central: The only team to defeat Naperville North, the Redhawks return eight players from a 20-2-2 team. Midfielders Veronica Ellis and Grace Orndorff are formidable talents, joined by forward Abby Joyce. Amada Alberts keys the defense.

14: Buffalo Grove: The Bison are the Mid-Suburban East favorites behind the dynamite sister tandem of Kelli and Colleen Zickert. Jessica Kovach, Sara Busse and Allie Ingham are also skilled offensive players. Kirsten Erickson is a talented keeper.

15: Lockport: Junior forward Lacey Clarida, an Alabama recruit playing her first year of high school soccer, adds a dynamic scoring dimension to the talented Porters. Ally Brehm and Brynn Feeley are also standouts.

16: Downers South: New coach Abigail Anderson inherits job from legendary Barry Jacobson. Junior forward Emily Wauer is elite playmaker for the defending Class 3A third-place team. Lori Niehaus, CC Carr and Brittany Dietz are players to watch.

17. Lake Forest: Junior all-around star Lucy Edwards is one of the state’s top players. Liz Clark is a superb keeper. The Scouts also return starters Danielle Loeger, Sydney Johnston, Mackenzie Mick, Carly Hoke and Mackenzie Adams.

18. Conant: Coach Jason Franco must replace 2012 Player of the Year Courtney Raetzman. Cougars return six starters from an 18-4 sectional qualifier. Drew Wentzel, Bianca Madonia, Leah Celarek, Katie Lomas, Alyssa Altosino and sophomore keeper Haley Anderson are worth keeping an eye on.

19. St. Francis: The defending Class 2A state champions look to reload behind star keeper Jenna DiTusa and talented returning nucleus in Taylor Bucaro, Kaity Bucaro, Anna Vonderhaar, Andrea Ravlin, Sarah Rahman and Emma Fickle.

20. Lane: The Public League favorites return one of the state’s most prolific scorers in senior forward Jasmin Carrera, who tallied 42 goals and 12 assists last year. Sophomores Sofia Pavon and Anastasia Niforos are gifted playmakers.
