Texas Select Youth Football League (TSYFL)

Texas Select YFL

Texas Select was established in late 2011, and began with Spring play in 2012. After 2 years of successful Spring seasons, TSYFL moved to also providing a Fall season.

In its first Spring season, TSYFL set the bar for leagues across the State by introducing the Texas State ID card, U.S. Passport, and the DOD Military ID card as the only certification to show proof of age and identity.  TSYFL eliminated the Birth Certificate as a means of cheating as to a players age or identity.

To further set the bar above other Independent leagues in the State of Texas, TSYFL requires all teams to have injury insurance for its players and cheer.  Teams that belong to National organizations already have this requirement, but the vast majority of Independent teams and leagues in the State of Texas do not require injury insurance.

TSYFL continued to set the bar by requiring all players to have a yearly physical. "If you say you play by NCAA, NFHS, or U.I.L rules, then you should require physicals as they do in their rules".

Unlike other leagues providing in-house coaches certification, TSYFL joined with USA Football to provide the coaches with accredited Coaches Certification and liability insurance.  TSYFL has also teamed with National Association of Youth Sports to certify cheer coaches, and all volunteers (non-coaches).

TSYFL has also set the bar for league championship venue. The TSYFL Fall Championship games are played at the AT&T Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas. TSYFL is the only youth league in Texas to play championship games in the AT&T Stadium.

And to compliment playing league championship games in the Cowboys Stadium, TSYFL presents to the Champion in each age division a full size sterling silver replica of the Lombardi Trophy (NFL Super Bowl Trophy) embossed with TSYFL Champion, year, and age division. Players and coaches receive stainless steel TSYFL Championship rings.

What is Select Football

In “select”, youth football teams either selectively recruit players, have tryouts and demote the unworthy to other teams, or do both.

There is nothing wrong with select football, but it is a different equation than the guy who takes every player who signs up, doesn’t selectively recruit, doesn’t cut or run kids off and tries his best to retain everyone.

A problem with traditional leagues and teams that have sign ups, who forbid recruiting and tryouts is that many teams fly under the radar and actually recruit. You don't have to look to far to find many top teams participating in National leagues such as AAU, Pop Warner, American Youth Football, and United Youth Football League have actually recruited players. These teams are violating their league rules.

Teams that play in traditional sign up leagues, yet are out recruiting players, are only undermining their league, team, players and the parents. Teams that illegally recruit players then play traditional signup teams are on 2 different levels of play, and have an advantage over their opponents even before getting on the field. Coaches who partake in recruiting in traditional sign up leagues are cheating, and their wins mean nothing.
