May Newsletter!

With the last of our rescheduled games to be played this weekend we can now start to reflect on what has been a pretty successful season on and off the field. Doesn't the season go quick!

I am sure you have been keeping up to date with our Match reports online, on iberkshires and action shots by tireless club photographer Julie Street. The following is a summary of the teams seasons so far.

The top performing team, results wise, this season was the u11 boys. Undefeated until the last two games the boys missed out on winning the league and qualifying for the playoff's by literally one second. A last second equaliser was denied by the full time whistle in incredibly controversial circumstances which left our boys and the opposition thinking we had won the game. Instead the boys finished second on equal points as the top placed team. Despite having a superior goal difference they bowed out on the head to head rule. Despite the final day disappointment the boys worked incredibly hard throughout the season and the individual progression of the players was very noticeable.

The u12 boys had a challenging season with respect to results but they comfortably accumulated more points than last season and stayed very competitive throughout. Coach Mike Tucker put the boys through their paces in the spring and with one rescheduled game proving difficult to organise they are set to end the season a much improved side from last year. Their final season points total does not reflect the performances on match days but crucial moments went against them which cost them results.

SDA's u14 boys play in the highest league of all our teams. Premiership 1 is very competitive and the boys won more than they lost. Coach Rich Powell who returned from his 2015 sabbatical was very pleased with the season in which the boys faired much better than they did last year. The boys play some excellent soccer as a team and individually they continue to develop into accomplished players. This group has a strong future in the game and their progress will be watched with much interest.

The girls u12's performances this season were very positive and they had a good season when this is considered. Unfortunately some excellent performances were not always rewarded with a win as they found it challenging to get the ball into the net. Every game was close and were it not for some missed opportunities they could have found them self further up the standings. Coach Graham Grassie enjoyed working with the young group and maintained excellent numbers at training throughout the season. With only one of their rescheduled games being confirmed we wish the girls luck and hope they finish with a solid performance.

The u13 girls mostly performed well this season and have a very outside chances of making the playoffs. They need to win their final game and hope that another unlikely result works in their favour. Unfortunately girls lost games that they should have got something out of and a lack of intensity at times, made more challenging by a small roster, looks likely to cost them a playoff chance. Final league standings aside lets hope we can finish with a good performance.

Our u15 girls are the oldest team at the club however this team is predominantly made up of u14 eligible players. Against all adversity the u15s have only lost one game with some heroic performances from what has been a very small roster. Coach Rich Powell was very pleased with the girls as they showed incredible character and desire. The 15s had to fight for all of their points and this is a testament to their willingness to work hard for each other and Rich. We expect more of the same in their last game this weekend.

Off the field SDA continues to go from strength to strength. We have formed a partnership with Healthy Fitness LLC and they will be sponsoring the 'Volunteer of the year' award in the way of a $250 PT voucher. Check out our website to links to their page.

Today we can confirm that SDA will be working closely with Berkshire County Head Start. We will be delivering an 8 week program across their two centres and both parties are incredibly excited to be working with The Berkshires future soccer stars!

Community Development Officer Mike Tucker has been busy coaching at Capeless Elementary. He and Coach Graham reported that their were some fantastic players with even better attitudes. If you would like to see SDA at your school then please get in contact with Coach Mike.

The High Performance Centre (u7-9) has proven to be very popular with a large number of players already registered to tryout. Youth and Senior Academy Tryouts are rapidly approaching. By now you should have received several email reminders but if you haven't here is another one! Please support us by registering your interest to play in the fall and beyond ASAP. The tryouts are open to any interested players so anyone involved in other or town programs are welcome to attend.

We would like to recognise the special efforts of the u14 boys Gabe Rich. Gabe has been busy collecting items for his donation to the Haiti 'Hot Football' Project. We were happy to give him some SDA shirts for his collection but wanted to single out his work personally.

You may have seen on facebook that we paid tribute to the legend that is Jack Soules. Jack has dedicated his life to helping Berkshire youths from challenging backgrounds recognise their dreams through sport. His role in the community is widely recognised and SDA would like to thank him for his incredible work.

The much anticipated 'Coaches Challenge' has been postponed due to one of the coaches being 'injured'. The players have been asking about when the challenge will take place but I can assure you that when the unmentioned coach is fit then we will get the ball rolling.

To celebrate what has been a good season our teams will be getting together for a function. Your coach will be in contact but some will be at our sponsors restaurants Patrick's and J.Allen's. They have done a great job in supporting our "Player of the Week' award so please make an effort to attend and thank them for all their help.

The June newsletter will have more information about the upcoming Summer Camps and Position Specific Clinics. In the meantime check our website for information and registration details.

Thanks for taking the time to keep up to date with your clubs news.
